MESSAGE TITLE: MAINTAINING SOCIAL RELEVANCE
PREACHER: MRS. CHINWE EGHAREVBA
TEXT: John 4:9-10, John 8:10-11,
In the time when Jesus work the world, there were acceptable and unacceptable laws. In many cases, He broke the laws to ensure His ministry on earth were fulfilled. “There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, give me to drink” (John 4:7). He knew that He was not supposed to communicate with this woman yet He asked her for water because He knew that was a need to pass the word of God to her.
The word ‘social’ refers to something that relates to human society and its members. Relevance means relating to the matter at hand. Maintaining social relevance is to be abreast which that which pertains to the ways and manner in which we relate with those in our immediate environment and beyond.
AREAS WHERE YOU NEED TO BE SOCIALABLE AS CHRISTIANS
• Our personality.
When you look at the mirror, what do you see? As you are presently, are you the kind of person you want to associate with? What impression who you want somebody meeting you for the first time to have about? (Exodus 28:2-5). We have special garment. We should present yourself in such a way that somebody will see you and have a particular expression. What will be that expression? How do we present ourselves? Be anointed by God and stand out differently from others. Our personality tells who you are.
• Home front
How do you relate with your spouse at home? The church is fragmented today because many homes and family are not carrying themselves alone.
• Our own environment or society.
“And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed” (Genesis 2:8). The first gift God gave to man was the garden of Eden. The word ‘Eden’ means where God dwells. The Lord gave us Eden which was His presence. Our environment, community and churches must be kept in a way that the Lord himself will come down to fellowship with us. We must enhance where we live, work, our church; both the internal and the environment to be a place where God is attracted to stay. You cannot attract the right people if we have not made the right environment.
• Social Relevance in the market place.
The market place refers to any place where good and services are exchanged for the purpose of value and profit making. Adding value is what makes you social able in the market place. If you do not add value, you are wasting your time; you will continue to pray but will receive no result. This market place includes the place you work because you are rendering service.
• In the ministry.
“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Romans 12:11). God’s desire for every ministry is to influence the world with His way of thinking and acting. To do so, you have to be able to communicate with them in a way and manner that will not seem to be intrusive but rather demonstrate the practice of love and will; sending a message across that Jesus is just not an event that happened but is real even till today. Among everybody, we are children of the Lord but how many do you know about Him? You should serve Him with enthusiasm, with all of your power not to be lazy. The best way to be there for one another is to have love and concern for one another.
HOW TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL RELEVANCE
• Smile: When you smile, you attract somebody. Let the joy of the Lord be reflected in your life and countenance.
• Be useful to God and humanity (1 Samuel 16:17-18).
• Update your knowledge (Proverb 9:9). Broaden your knowledge, know a little about anything.
• Exchange ideas and value (Genesis 41:39-40).
• Excellence and distinction (Genesis 41:44). Example is Joseph.
