MESSAGE TITLE: WORK ETHNICS, CULTURAL INCLUSIVENESS AND ORGANISATION
PREACHER: BISHOP MRS. S.I OKELEZOH
TEXT: 1 Cor. 7:17, Proverbs 25:17, Col. 2:5, 1 Cor. 14:40, Acts 6:1-7, Exodus 18:13-26
A set of values created for the importance of work. Its also a set of principles that guides a person’s work leading them to produce good quality work consistently. “But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so, ordain I in all churches” (1 Cor. 7:17). How can we know the ethnics God wants us to work in? your walk and growth with God as an individual empowers you to work for Him. Well, here are some ethnics we workers should exhibit.
As a member of the church, you must be morally disciplined. There are certain things we as worker mustn’t involve in: paying unnecessary visit to member. If you are going for visitation, it should be for impartation, home visiting of members at the wrong time (night). As a church worker, you must be discipline and have self-control.
People who are in authorities (pastors, deacons, etc.), your members should have confident in you. As a pastor, when members confide in you the things the committed, you shouldn’t expose them or ridicule them because it can affect their relationship with the church.
• ORDERLINESS (Col. 2:5)
“For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ” (Col. 2:5). You don’t wait for your leader to be where you are for you to be orderly. “Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40). Orderliness is something you must have if you must succeed as a church worker.
You may be wondering what involves culture with the church? First, what do we mean by culture? It’s the idea, customs and social behaviour of a particular set of persons or society. It is often characterized by common language, dressing, food and lifestyle. It also means to maintain tissue cells or other living organisms in conditions suitable for growth. The great commission is to culture men and make disciples from the entire world in which various cultures subsist; with emphasis on turning men from being unbelievers to followers of Christ. Culture can be sub-divided into:
• Ethnic culture: This is the cultural heritage, ancestry, history, language, dialect, dressing style and art of an ethnic group.
• Youth culture: This is the way adolescent live and the norms, values and practices they share. Youth culture and that of older generations differs; it’s mainly characterized by dressing, popular music, sports and vocabulary. The youth culture is majorly propagated through social media, internet and traditional media e.g. Tv, radio etc.
• Kingdom culture: The life and lifestyle of Christ. Where we are taught discipline, uprightness and ways of God; the truth. In this kingdom, there is liberty, no bondage and eternal life.
THE NATURE OF THE PERFECTION MANDATE
Our perfection mandates are: Go and teach my people that they are spirit, Go and perfect my people, and Go and prepare my people for rapture. The aim of the perfection mandate is to raise people with excellent values, who are heaven bound, socially, economically, morally and spiritually sound, corruption free, world changers, leaders and managers.
Cultural inclusiveness to us as laborers in the vineyard is therefore the ability to accept and accommodate diverse cultures and facilitate their adoption of the culture of Christ. An example is found in the book of Acts 6:1-7.
ORGANISATION (Exodus 18:13-26)
Every worker of God must deliver His service to the world in an organized manner: doing the right thing at the right time. “When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws” (Exodus 18:16).
